Add Labor Quote of the Day to Your Website
To make the labor quote of the day (left) appear on your website, simply add the following line of script into your html code at the place you want the quote to appear:
<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript" src="http://www.uevermont.org/laborquotes.js"></script>
The quote will then be inserted into your document with no formatting of its own; i.e., it will display with whatever size and type of font that any plain text, placed at the same place in your html code, would appear.
The Labor Quote of the day script simply cycles through a set number of quotes (currently ) by taking the date from the host computer, deriving a day-of-the-year number (between 0 and 364), dividing it by the total number of quotes and then using the remainder (between 0 and ) as an index to select an appropriate quote.
There are a few special tricks that it does as well. If it's Martin Luther King Jr's birthday, it selects an MLK quote (number 14); similarly with Cesar Chavez's birthday (number 12). On March 8th (International Women's Day) it picks quote number 3, by the feminist labor leader Rose Schneiderman, and on Labor Day, it picks a quote particularly about Labor Day. (you can view the quotes by number below; to see the Labor Day quote you'll just have to reset the date on your computer to labor day and reload this page).
